The course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively execute diver rescues and to assist and administer necessary first aid in the event of an emergency. You will learn skills such as how to perform self-rescues, buddy rescues, recognize and calm potential panicked divers, administer proper first aid for divers who have suffered diving accidents, perform lost diver search patterns effectively, and manage the accident scene. After the SNSI Rescue Diver course you can enroll in the SNSI Master Diver Development Program or start the professional dive course by enrolling in the SNSI Divemaster Course.

This course is for:

  • Any diver certified as an Open Water Scuba Diver who wants to expand their diving knowledge and skills.
  • Any diver certified as an Advanced Adventure Diver or Advanced Diver who would like to advance in their scuba training
  • Anyone who wants to become a Dive Leader

Course prerequisites:

  • Minimum age 18 years old or 15 years old with parental consent
  • Provide proof of certification in CPR, First Aid, and Oxygen (O2) provider training (if local law permits)*
  • Provide proof of S NSI Advanced Adventure Diver certification, or equivalent, or Open Water Scuba Diver certification and 40 logged open water dives
  • Completing the medical application and submitting a medical certificate
  • Signature of the contract signed by the parents and/or guardian

*Note: S NSI CPROX, CPR1st or CPROX1st AED courses can be combined with the redemption program provided by qualified S NSI instructors.

Some of the water skills include:

  • At the surface, identify and assist a properly equipped diver by simulating:
    • breathing difficulties
    • Tiredness
    • leg cramp
    • Onset of panic symptoms
  • Locate and surface a diver simulating unconsciousness from about 6 meters / 20 feet
  • After surfacing, carry the unconscious diver 50 meters / 150 feet to the shore or boat, simulating a water rescue breath
  • Upon reaching the beach or boat, with or without the help of an assistant, remove the diver from the water

Minimum requirements for an S NSI Rescue Diver:

  • Demonstrate mature judgment and common sense in relation to the planning and execution of emergency dives.
  • Fulfill all on-water requirements safely and efficiently.
  • Satisfactorily complete the S NSI Rescue Diver written exam located in the S NSI Rescue Diver Handbook with a passing score of 80%, followed by 100% Instructor correction.
